It was my pleasure to be invited to take part in another amazing show by curator Frankie Velez. ‘Anything Goes’ was comprised of a talented group of artists with a variety of backgrounds, but all dedicated to the cutting edge side of fine art.
My contribution of the painting titled, “Douglas”, a 30″ x 29″ acrylic on canvas is a portrait of a former student I had the privilege to teach. The painting is based off of a black and white photograph taken for their ‘Intro to Fine Arts’ assignment; The Self-Portrait. The facial expression I captured and how it communicates to the viewer, inspired me to create the painting. Plus it continued with my 2011 theme, The Portrait.
I have worked with Mr. Velez in the past, including some pivotal moments such as my first solo New York City show. He never disappoints in bringing life to naked white walls.
‘Anything Goes’ will run for 4 weeks and the impressive collection are worth a visit.
