Pongtopia! was a charity event presented by Brookfield Office Properties, in partnership with SPiN Galactic in support of Operation Design.  Spin Galactic helps to promote the love of ping-pong and OD is a non-profit working with NYC schools and promotes the idea that well-designed environments help students learn, work & thrive.

Renowned street artist Billi Kid was the curator for the artistic components of this 3 day event held at the World Financial Center in Manhattan.  Pongtopia! housed an exhibit of ping-pong paddles, each created by 40 talented artists and raised $10,000.  There was an auction of one-of-a-kind painted ping-pong tables by world famous artists such as Joe Iurato, Shiro, Billi Kid, Cope2 and Cern.  The proceeds went to support creative programs through Operation Design.

My contribution to this worthy event was my paddle painted in acrylic of a character I called, “Ping Pong Maniac”. I was delighted to be invited to participate in this art for education event.  As an art educator myself in an urban high school, I jumped at the chance to promote this worthy endeavor.
